Microgaming organises Executive Club Charity Poker Tournament and donates £10,000 to
Charity in the process
Microgaming, the world's leading software provider for online gaming, recently
invited the Island's business leaders, who are members of the Executive Club and
invited guests, to enjoy an exciting and entertaining night of charity poker.
£10,000 was donated by Microgaming to the winners of the event for the benefit of
local charities.
The annual event was sponsored and organised by Microgaming on behalf of the
Executive Club, and was attended by around 100 Executive Club members, invited
guests and Microgaming representatives. The evening was a great opportunity for
light hearted networking for Microgaming and the Executive Club, although
competitors took their poker very seriously during the evening especially as there
was £10,000 at stake for their chosen charities.
At the final tournament table nine players were left to compete for the £10,000 -
divided into three prizes of £6000, £3000 and £1000. During the evening, John
McChesney, Director of Human Resources, Manx Telecom and Executive Club member,
managed to accumulate 51,000 chips which he took to the final table and came away as
the winner.
McChesney commented "I was thrilled to be part of such an exciting event, and
amazingly not only did I walk away with the achievement of winning the tournament,
but I was so proud to be able to play on behalf of my chosen charities the Isle of
Man Hospice & Isle of Man Children's Centre and donate £3,000 to each."
The event was a resounding success and Microgaming received numerous letters of
thanks and competitors can't wait for the next event in 2009.
Second place went to Joyce Mummery invited guest of the Executive Club who will be
donating her £3,000, to be split between her chosen charities of Age Concern and
Wish Upon A dream.
Amongst the comments Roger Platford, Hedge fund Trader at CCAP and Executive Club
member, remarked "I still cannot believe I managed to come third....I would like to
thank Microgaming for organising an excellent evening, not only for the social side
but also for the benefit of the nominated charities" Platford placed third in the
tournament and donated £1,000 to his chosen charity Rebecca House.
Anderson Whamond, Chairman of the Executive Club commented "The Executive Club are
delighted to be able to support local charities in any way we can, and it's such a
pleasure to be involved in a successful event such as this and in the process show
our support for local charities."
Since 2002 Microgaming has donated considerable financial support to charities and
local hospital services, through the Microgaming Hospital Trust. This includes over
£20,000 to each of the following: Manx Foundation for the Physically Disabled, St

made to Riding for the Disabled, Age Concern, Isle of Man Children's Centre and to
allow disabled access into the Western Swimming Pool.
Roger Raatgever, Chief Executive Officer, Microgaming, says, "We are delighted to be
able to sponsor and organise this fun charity event. We are constantly thinking of
ways that Microgaming can give our support to local charities. We set up the
Microgaming Hospital Trust, 5 years ago, which has enabled us to made financial
