Feel the Human Side: It Matters Most

By Lewis.Green - Posted on 27 August 2008

Yesterday, after posting Getting Discovered Has Downsides, I felt less that satisfied. Discussing downsides of most things doesn't give me joy. The information can be useful and helpful, but that doesn't save it from being joyous. So I did something I haven't done for nearly a year. I spent the rest of yesterday connecting. Here's what it looked like:

  • Kept both Plurk and Twitter alive all day and commented as often as possible about everything that interested me. It was good to connect to folks I have too long ignored, using work to excuse my presence.
  • Visited as many blogs as possible. Again, left comments to indicate my presence with the bloggers. (I chose the word with carefully)
  • Contacted clients with news and updates regarding our efforts to get them noticed. Although we do this regularly, this time every message began with a greeting and a "hope this finds you well and that you had a great weekend" opening.
  • Even took time to talk about the SEC with Mack on Twitter. Gosh, I am so disciplined I seldom do that during work hours.

The result: I am refreshed, following a series of 7-day work weeks, and feel human again. Best of all, I remember that I am the guy who wrote a book about giving and sharing happiness. It's time to practice my beliefs more often.

“I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.” Arthur Rubinstein
