Slightly drained

This morning started with an interesting twist when one of my Vet Assistant colleagues phoned and told me that the Vet isn't able to come for the morning consultation. By the time I got the call the reception room had already started to fill with the pets and their owners. I braced myself and entered the reception room wearing my best apologetic smile. I did explain politely for all of them that unfortunately the Vet got held up and wasn't able to arrive until after lunch time. Most of the clients took it very well (in fact their pets seemed positively relieved when they hurried out from the door). But there were couple of pet owners who demanded urgent actions and were not best pleased when I explained that my professional limitations (i.e. zero years in the Vet school) don't allow me to take the role of a locum Vet. I think I could have possibly known how to remove some ticks on my own, but that would have been just about it. I had a character building exercise to politely to turn the people away and ask them to return for the later consultation. There were only couple of pets that I did take in, a cat who needed a draining tube to be taken out and a dead new born puppy, which needed to have a post mortem examination. I made a confy cage for the cat and had to place the little puppy to our fridge (!) in order to secure the examination results. When the Vet arrived, I was very pleased indeed to see him. The rest part of the day went quite smoothly, albeit being quite busy as usual.

PS. Many thanks for everybody for your comments to my blogs. I've been reading them with great appreciation, but unfortunately I have been so busy that I haven't been able to write replies.
